Zebra Longwing

Heliconians and Fritillaries. Zebra Longwing. Florida Museum of Natural History Wildflower Garden, Gainesville, Florida. 2014.

I thought this turned out kind of cool. I love the way you can see the motion and urgency for this Zebra Longwing, flitting around the Passion Vine to lay more eggs. Her legs are hanging down, ready for a landing. And her proboscis is covered with pollen. Zebra Longwings eat pollen along with nectar and it helps them to live for months--much longer than the average butterfly.
